A.L. Rowse

A.L. Rowse was one of the 20th century’s foremost historians on Elizabethan England. He wrote biographies of several English historical and literary figures.

Synopsis

Born Dec. 4, 1903, in Tregonissey, England, A.L. Rowse was elected a fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, where he lived and worked for the next 49 years as a teacher and historian. He wrote several biographies of English historical and literary figures, including a 1963 controversial biography of Shakespeare. His last book, Historians I Have Known, was published in 1995.
