Avery Brundage
Sports administrator Avery Brundage was president of the U.S. Olympic Association (1929-1953) and the International Olympic Committee (1952-1972).
Synopsis
Avery Brundage (born September 28, 1887) competed in the decathlon at the 1912 Olympic Games. He became president of the U.S. Olympic Association and Committee in 1929, then served as president of the International Olympic Committee (1952–72). Controversial and domineering, he insisted that the 1972 Munich Games continue in spite of the terrorist attack that killed 11 Israeli athletes.
