Charles I

Charles I of Hungary was forced to surrender his power to Wenceslas of Bohemia, but later reclaimed the throne and formed a defensive alliance with Poland.

Synopsis

Charles I of Hungary was born circa 1288, in Naples, Italy. In 1301, he became king of Hungary, but was soon forced to surrender it to Wenceslas of Bohemia. Wenceslas then transferred his power to Otto, the Duke of Lower Bavaria. In 1308, when Otto was imprisoned by Hungarians, Charles I reclaimed the throne. In 1335, he formed an alliance with Poland. He died on July 16, 1342, in Visegrád, Hungary.
