Dale Chihuly is an American artist whose work in glass led to a resurgence of interest in that medium.
Dale Chihuly was born on September 20, 1941 in Tacoma, WA. He received an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design worked at a renowned glassblowing workshop in Italy. Returning to the US , he established the RISD glassblowing program and founded the Pilchuck Glass School. In 1976 a car accident left Chihuly blind in one eye, and thereafter he was dependent on assistants to execute his designs.
