Ding Ling

Ding Ling was a Chinese writer who was acclaimed by the literary establishment but condemned by the Nationalist Party in her homeland.

Ding Ling, pen name of Jiang Wei, was one of China's most popular 20th-century authors. In her early career, Ling initially wrote highly successful short stories centering on young, unconventional Chinese women. About 1930, with a distinct change in her artistic tendency, she became a major literary figure of the “leftist” literature who continually found herself jailed for political reasons.
