Ehud Olmert

Ehud Olmert became prime minister of Israel after Ariel Sharon’s massive stroke in 2006. He was forced to resign under charges of corruption in 2009.

Synopsis

Ehud Olmert was the youngest member of the Knesset when elected with the Likud party in 1973. After 20 years, Olmert left national politics to become mayor of Jerusalem, but was brought back by Ariel Sharon, who made him vice prime minister in 2003. Olmert then became prime minister when Sharon suffered a stroke in 2006. However, he was dogged by a corruption investigation and left office in 2009.
