Ernest J. King
American Admiral Ernest J. King was commander in chief of U.S. naval forces and chief of naval operations throughout most of World War II.
Synopsis
Ernest J. King was appointed head of the Atlantic Fleet in January 1941. A few days after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor he became commander in chief of the U.S. fleet, with the rank of admiral. In March 1942 he also took over the post of chief of naval operations, becoming the most important figure in the navy and the only man ever to hold both appointments.
