Georg Jensen

Danish silversmith Georg Jensen was one of the first people to use steel for cutlery and recognize modern silverware as profitable.

Synopsis

Silversmith Georg Jensen was born on Aug. 31, 1866, in Raadvad, Denmark. At 14 he began a goldsmith apprenticeship. In 1904, he opened his own silversmith shop in Copenhagen. He showed his work at foreign exhibits and built a strong reputation. He was one of the first metalworkers to use steel for cutlery. By 1935, he had stores worldwide and more than 3,000 patterns.
