Howard Dietz

Howard Dietz was a songwriter and the creator of the famous MGM lion mascot.

Synopsis

Howard Dietz was born on September 8, 1896, in New York City. After studying journalism at Columbia University, Dietz became a prolific songwriter. He penned some 500 songs, including "That's Entertainment!" and "You and the Night and the Music," mostly for Broadway, with composer Arthur Schwartz. He is also credited with creating MGM's roaring lion mascot. Dietz was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971. He died in 1983.
