Jenny Lind

Opera singer, teacher and philanthropist Jenny Lind, a.k.a. the “Swedish Nightingale,” was the prima donna at the Royal Opera in Stockholm during the 1800s.

Synopsis

Jenny Lind was born on October 6, 1820, in Stockholm, Sweden. When she was 9, she enrolled in Sweden’s Royal Opera Program. By 18, she became the prima donna at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. She made her formal debut in Der Freischütz in 1838. She continued to sing in Europe through the late 1850s and spent her later life as a teacher and philanthropist. She died on November 2, 1887, in Malvern, England.
