Synopsis
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born August 28, 1749, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In 1773 he provided the Sturm und Drang movement with its first major drama, and in 1774 with its first novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther, in which he created the prototype of the Romantic hero. In 1775 he arrived at Weimar, where he was appointed to the ducal court and remained for the rest of his life.
