Julia Grant

American first lady Julia Grant was the wife of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th U.S. president and commander of the Union armies during the American Civil War.

Synopsis

Julia Grant was born January 26, 1826 near St. Louis, Missouri. In 1848 she married Ulysses S. Grant. He served in the army until his resignation in 1854, and for the next few years he was notably unsuccessful until the Civil War. After he became president, she enjoyed entertaining in the White House. She died in December 1902 and was buried beside her husband at Grant's Tomb.
