Kath Walker
Australian Aboriginal writer and political activist Kath Walker is considered the first of the modern-day Aboriginal protest writers.
Synopsis
Kath Walker was born November 3, 1920 on North Stradbroke Island, Australia. She campaigned successfully for the 1967 abolition of discriminatory, anti-Aboriginal sections of the Australian constitution. Her writings include The Dawn Is at Hand, My People: A Kath Walker Collection, Stradbroke Dreamtime, Father Sky and Mother Earth, and a treatment of Aboriginal creation myth, The Rainbow Serpent.
