Lycurgus
Lycurgus was an ancient Greek who is credited with helping to found the basic tenets of Spartan society.
Synopsis
Scholars have been unable to determine conclusively whether Lycurgus was a historical person and, if he did exist, which institutions should be attributed to him. But his generally known as a lawgiver who founded some or most of the institutions of ancient Sparta, including the highly militarized communal system that made Sparta unique among the city-states of Greece.
