Ottorino Respighi

Italian composer Ottorino Respighi introduced dramatic Russian sound to Italian music. He wrote suites and operas, including Pini di Roma and Belfagor.

Synopsis

Ottorino Respighi was born on July 9, 1879, in Bologna, Italy. He studied music with Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov in St. Petersburg. Respighi is known for introducing Russian sound to Italian music. In addition to composing suites, he composed operas such as Belfagor and La fiamma. His wife, Elsa Olivieri-Sangiacomo Respighi, who was also his pupil, was a composer and singer of operas. Respighi died on April 18, 1936, in Rome, Italy.
