Synopsis
Rammohun Roy was an Indian philosopher, religious leader and educational reformer who challenged traditional Hindu culture in the early 1800's. He was a strong opponent of sati, the Hindu funeral practice in which the widow immolated herself on her husband's funeral pyre. Roy also denounced the caste system, polygamy and child marriages and wrote about these issues self-published newspapers.
