Rex Stout was an American crime writer best known for his fictional New York City detective Nero Wolfe in Fer-de-Lance. Stout began his living as an author in 1927, living exclusively by writing. During World War II Stout cut back on his detective writing to write propaganda material. Stout was nominated Best Mystery Writer of the Century at Bouchercon 2000.
