Robert E. Jones is a theatrical and motion picture designer whose insistence on minimalistic design set the trend for stage design of the 20th century.
Synopsis
Robert E. Jones began designing theatrical sets after graduating from Harvard in 1910. In a time when the standard was elaborate and realistic sets, Jones insisted on a minimalist style, allowing for greater ease in scene shifts. He worked closely with his friend and playwright Eugene O'Neill on many Broadway productions and began designing sets for early color films in 1933.
