Bob Keeshan

Bob Keeshan was a TV producer, developer, and personality who played both Clarabelle the Clown and Captain Kangaroo on children’s TV shows.

Synopsis

Born in Lynnbook, New York, in 1927, Bob Keeshan started in show business as an NBC page. He later played Clarabell on Howdy Doody (1947–1952). After developing ABC's Time for Fun (1953–1955), he produced Captain Kangeroo (1955–1985) on CBS, starring as the grandfatherly host who teaches through the humorous antics of animal puppets. In 1989 he published Growing Up Happy.
