Jan Ingenhousz
Jan Ingenhousz was an 18th century Dutch scientist known for his groundbreaking discoveries regarding plants and photosynthesis.
Synopsis
Born on December 8, 1730, in Breda, Netherlands, Jan Ingenhousz worked as a doctor in London, England, handling pioneering work in smallpox inoculations. He later served as a physician to Austrian monarch Maria Theresa and, after experimentation, articulated the theory of photosynthesis and oxygen production among green-leafed plants. Also doing work in conduction, Ingenhousz died in Calne on September 7, 1799.
