Kristin Davis is an American actress known for playing the inhibited and romantically naive Charlotte York on ‘Sex and the City.’

Who Is Kristin Davis?

Kristin Davis was born on February 24, 1965, in Boulder, Colorado. She got her big break in 1995 when she landed a role on TV's Melrose Place. She also appeared on Friends and Seinfeld. In 2009 she played Lucy in the film Couple's Retreat. But her most memorable role was in the HBO series Sex and the City, portraying Charlotte York who struggles with her inhibitions as she confronts New York's single scene. She reprised the role for an original theatrical film in 2008 and in 2010's Sex and the City 2.

Davis got her big break in 1995 when she landed the role of Brooke Armstrong Campbell on TV's Melrose Place. Davis also appeared in Friends and Seinfeld. 

Among her film credits, she's starred in The Shaggy Dog (2006), Deck the Halls (2006) and Couple's Retreat (2009).

'Sex and the City'

In Sex and the City, Davis portrayed Charlotte York, an art dealer who struggles with her inhibitions as she confronts New York City's single scene alongside friends Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon). Davis reprised the role for an original theatrical film in 2008 and in 2010's sequel.

Sex and the City was one of television's most popular shows during its six-season run on HBO, and endured as a cultural touchstone long after it signed off. In June 2018, with numerous media outlets celebrating the 20th anniversary of its debut, Davis posted a photo to Instagram from the final day of shooting, showing her tearful co-stars along with the writers and crew.

Theater Work

In 2012 Davis made her debut on Broadway as Mabel Cantwell in a revival of Gore Vidal's The Best Man. Two years later she played wife Beth Gallagher in West End's production of Fatal Attraction.

In 2011 Davis took the single mom route and adopted a black baby girl she named Gemma Rose. Davis spoke about her experience on interracial adoption and how her perception has changed.

“I am white. I have lived in white privilege. I thought I knew before adopting my daughter that I was in white privilege, that I understood what that meant,” Davis said in 2016, speaking in context of the election of President Donald Trump. “But until you actually have a child, which is like your heart being outside you, and that heart happens to be in a brown body, and you have people who are actively working against your child, it’s hard. It fills me with terror.”

In May 2018, it was reported that Davis had adopted a second child, a baby boy.

Early Life

Kristin Landen Davis was born on February 23 or 24 (depending on the source), 1965, in Boulder, Colorado. She was a baby when her parents divorced and was later adopted by her stepfather, psychologist Keith Davis, who married her mother Dorothy in 1968.

After Davis' adoptive father accepted a teaching job at the University of South Carolina, he moved the family there. After graduating from A.C. Flora High School in 1983, Davis headed to Rutgers University. She then moved to New York where she worked in classical and contemporary theater and starred in commercials.

Personal Life

Davis has been linked to several men, including Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, but has never been married.
