Maureen Stapleton was an American actress known primarily for her stage work in the plays of Tennessee Williams.

Maureen Stapleton was born in Troy, New York in 1925. A major interpreter of the plays of Tennessee Williams, her role as Serafina in The Rose Tattoo brought her great acclaim. One of the great US stage actresses, she also appeared in a number of films. Stapleton died in 2006.

Acclaimed as one of the great US stage actresses, she has also appeared in a number of films.
