Rob Corddry is an American actor known for his comedic work on such programs as ‘The Daily Show’ and in such movies as ‘Hot Tub Time Machine.’

Synopsis

Rob Corddry was born on February 4, 1971, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and earned a B.A. in English from UMass. He made his first TV appearance on Comedy Central’s Upright Citizens Brigade, and followed with a recurring correspondent role on the hit series The Daily Show. Corddry has since made a name for himself in comedy films, starring in such movies as Hot Tub Time Machine, Pain & Gain and Cedar Rapids. In 2015, he landed a role on the HBO series Ballers.

Early Life and Career

Rob Corddry was born on February 4, 1971, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and went on to attend the University of Massachusetts, where he became active on the drama scene. He graduated with an English degree and moved to New York City in 1994 to take a shot at a life in the theater. 

Corddry eventually landed a touring gig with the National Shakespeare Company, but during this period it might be said that he was leading a double life: As active as he was with Shakespeare, Corddry was just as active in sketch comedy and improv, performing with the groups Naked Babies and Third Rail Comedy at the renowned Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.

His sketch work led to his first TV appearance, on Comedy Central’s Upright Citizens Brigade series, which ran from 1998 until 2000. With his comedy career taking off, Corddry put Shakespeare behind him and shifted his focus to comedy full time, and he soon found himself on one of the hottest TV shows on the air: The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. He served as a correspondent, sarcastic and smarmy, from 2002 until 2006, and has made guest appearances as well over the years.

Finding His Way to the Big Leagues

The exposure Corddry received via The Daily Show did wonders for his career, and in 2003 he made his first appearance in a big-time Hollywood movie in the Will Ferrell comedy Old School. This led to the titular role in Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story (2004), a comedy about the triumphant return of a disgraced paintball legend.

Following Bobby Dukes came roles on such TV shows as Arrested Development, American Dad and Curb Your Enthusiasm, and in such movies as Failure to Launch, Wedding Daze and Unaccompanied Minors (all 2006). As the decade drew to a close, Corddry found himself in demand, and he made appearances in more than a dozen movies, among them I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007), What Happens in Vegas (2008), Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay (2008) and, perhaps most notable, Hot Tub Time Machine (2010).

Recent Work

On a roll, Corddry took the reins of his career a little more firmly when he created the medical drama satire Children’s Hospital, which debuted on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in 2010. Corddry wrote for the show and also took on the starring role of Dr. Blake Downs, a doctor who wears clown paint on his face to lighten the mood but often simply gives his patients the creeps.

Also during this period were films such as Cedar Rapids (2011), which featured Ed Helms, another Daily Show alum; Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012); Pain & Gain (2013) with Dwayne Johnson; and In a World… (2013). In 2015, Corddry and his co-stars were back for another romp in Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and Corddry took on a new series in HBO’s Ballers, again alongside Johnson.

Personal Life

Corddry married wife Sandra in 2002. They have two daughters: Sloane (born in 2006) and Marlo (2008).
