St. Leo I was born circa 400. He was consecrated in 440 and served as pope until 461. During his papacy, he strove to suppress heresy and presented a clear doctrine of Christ’s incarnation that successfully promoted orthodoxy. His 432 letters and 96 sermons likewise expressed his concept of Petrine Supremacy. He died on November 10, 461, in Rome, Italy. In 1754, he was declared a doctor of the Church.
