Cardinal Thomas Wolsey was lord chancellor during the reign of Henry VIII, becoming a major figure in the king’s administration.
Synopsis
Born sometime around 1475 in Ipswich, England, Thomas Wolsey served as chaplain to Henry VII. Once his son Henry VIII was crowned, Wolsey rose to power as well and was eventually appointed lord chancellor, overseeing foreign affairs. Wolsey was unable to annul the king's marriage to Catherine of Aragon and was accused of treason. He died on November 29, 1530.
