Cyrus S. Eaton

Cyrus S. Eaton was a Canadian industrialist and formed the third largest steel company in the United States.

Synopsis

Cyrus S. Eaton was born on December 27, 1883 in Pugwash, Nova Scotia. He built power plants in western Canada, and diversified into banking and steel in the U.S. In 1930 he formed Republic Steel, the 3rd-largest U.S. steel company. He lost his fortune in the Depression but subsequently made another. An advocate of nuclear disarmament, he helped inaugurate the Pugwash Conferences. He died in 1979.
