Georg Baselitz
German artist George Baselitz helped start the Neo-Expressionism movement. He’s known for intentionally hanging his artwork upside down.

Artist Georg Baselitz was born Jan. 23, 1938, in Deutschbaselitz, Germany. He studied art in East and West Berlin. In his early years he took an interest in Expressionist art, folk art and children’s art. His work conveyed raw emotion and he painted with a crude style. In 1969, he started hanging his work upside down to emphasize surface. He’s considered a pioneer of the Neo-Expressionism movement.
