Synopsis

Jean-Bertrand Aristide was born on July 15, 1953, in Port Salut, Haiti. In 1983, he became a priest and a champion of the poor. In 1991, after the Duvalier family of dictators was overthrown, he was chosen as President of Haiti in the nation’s first democratic election. In 2004, an American coup forced him to seek asylum in Jamaica. He was eventually welcomed by the government in South Africa.
