Born on September 9, 1910, in Melksham, Wiltshire, England, Sidney Leslie Goodwin was 19 months old when he perished with his family during the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912. His body was discovered by a search crew days afterwards, and was misidentified twice before researchers determined his true origins via laboratory analysis, making Goodwin the first unknown Titanic casualty to be identified via DNA.

Titanic victim Sidney Leslie Goodwin was born in Melksham, Wiltshire, England, on September 9, 1910. A 1-year-old Sidney Goodwin boarded the RMS Titanic with his parents, Frederick and Augusta, and five siblings on April 10, 1912. The entire family was lost in the sinking, and Sidney's was one of the first bodies recovered. A monument was resurrected in honor of the "Unknown Child" after no family members came forward to claim him. Thanks to modern DNA analysis, the unknown child was determined to be Sidney Goodwin in 2007.
