England’s Thomas Campion was a 16th and 17th century physician, writer and composer known for his innovative ideas on form.
Synopsis
Born on February 12, 1567, in London, England, Thomas Campion attended school for law though later worked as a doctor. He was also a prolific poet/lyricist and songwriter, as seen in works like the Book of Ayeres and Light Conceits of Lovers. Campion offered theories on poetic form that called for less reliance on rhyming and was an innovator in his use of language. He died in England on March 1, 1620.
